This purée is the perfect introduction to savory flavors for your little one. The natural sweetness of butternut squash complements the richness of lamb, while spinach adds a gentle boost of green goodness. Every spoonful is loaded with essential nutrients to support healthy growth and development.
Easy to make, freezer-friendly, and naturally balanced, it’s a recipe parents can feel good about serving and babies will love to eat.
Ingredients
- 150g minced lamb
- 300g butternut squash, peeled and cubed
- 50g fresh spinach
- 15ml olive oil
- 150ml water or unsalted broth, for blending
- 1 pinch onion powder (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced lamb and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon until browned.
- Add the cubed butternut squash to the saucepan. Pour in just enough water to cover the ingredients, bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the squash is very tender.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the fresh spinach and stir until it wilts from the residual heat, about 1–2 minutes.
- Carefully transfer the entire mixture to a high-speed blender. Add the optional pinch of onion powder.
- Blend until completely smooth. Add more water or unsalted broth, one tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired consistency.
- Allow the purée to cool before serving. Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freeze in single-portion trays.
Tips & Substitutions
- Skip the onion powder if your baby is sensitive to stronger flavors—it's completely optional.
- Try other veggies: Substitute butternut squash with sweet potato or carrot for a similar texture and sweetness.
- Batch cook and freeze: Make a larger batch and freeze in small portions for quick, nutrient-rich meals on busy days.
