Ingredients
- 1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow lentils)
- 1/2 cup white rice
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon grated garlic
- 1 teaspoon olive oil or ghee
- 2 1/2 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
- Heat olive oil in a pressure cooker or pot. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, sauté for 1–2 minutes until soft.
- Add the washed rice and dal, stir well to coat with flavors.
- Pour in water, mix, and bring to a boil. Close the lid and cook on medium heat for 3–4 whistles (or simmer covered for 25–30 minutes until soft).
- Once cooked, mash lightly with the back of a spoon for a smooth, baby-friendly texture. Serve warm.
Tips & Substitutions
- Skip the onion and garlic if your baby is very young or sensitive to stronger flavors.
- For extra creaminess, add a small spoon of ghee before serving.
- If your toddler prefers more flavor, lightly season with a pinch of turmeric or a dash of black pepper.
