Rich in iron, vitamins, and natural fiber, this purée delivers balanced nutrition in every spoonful. Plus, it’s simple to make ahead, freeze, and reheat whenever your baby is ready for mealtime.
Ingredients
- 100g lean ground lamb
- 300g butternut squash, peeled and cubed
- 40g unsulphured dried apricots, chopped
- 200ml water or unsalted broth
- 5ml olive oil
- 1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, gently cook the ground lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add the cubed butternut squash, chopped apricots, and water to the saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until the squash is very tender.
- Remove from heat and stir in the olive oil and the pinch of cinnamon, if using.
- Carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and purée until smooth. Add a little more water if needed to reach your baby's preferred consistency.
- Allow to cool before serving. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage.
Tips & Substitutions
- Texture control: For younger babies, add more liquid and blend until silky smooth. Older babies may enjoy a slightly thicker purée.
- Flavor boost: A tiny pinch of cinnamon adds warmth and depth without overwhelming the natural sweetness.
- Ingredient swaps: Substitute sweet potato for squash or chicken for lamb for a lighter alternative.
